We can't get over how cute cats are, and it seems the internet agrees.

Cats are, and always have been, one of the cutest creatures to have ever graced this planet with their presence. It's not only that they're ferocious hunters, floofy monarchs, and all-around resilient animals - they also possess an unmatched cuteness that puts them right at the top of the cute animals list. Cats have a cute little face with big eyes, a fluffy and expressive tail, and the softest fur imaginable. It's all adorable and factors into their insane level of cuteness.

We know we're not the only ones who think cats are such wholesome creatures. The internet is basically ruled by cute cats, which obviously means a bajillion people around the globe adore these little munchkins just as much as we do. When someone makes a cat post to share with the internet - they know fully well it'll reach the eyes of many other cat people and general feline fans. And since cat people basically rule the internet's content, it seems, every cat meme has its purpose.

The purpose of cat memes is obviously to make people laugh, but there's an extra thing there that happens, even if we don't mean it by making a cat meme… they remind us of how cute cats are. Don't get us wrong, we know cat memes are hilarious (because cats are hilarious, it's in their nature) - but they're also the purrfect daily reminder that we're surrounded by the cutest creatures imaginable, and some of them actually live in our homes. Cats possess "baby schema" features - like large eyes, round faces, and generally being soft - that subconsciously trigger our nurturing instincts, like a parent to their child.
